Summary:
Holy cap, this car is a blast. I literally smile every time I think of her. Corners on rails, launches like a wild cat, and has looks to kill. I had a guy pull up next to me in a newer C5 corvette and ask me to trade. The attention at car shows is almost imtimidating. Out performs anything I've ever driven, owned or had the pleasure of standing next to. She's not a daily driver. Close, if you truely love to drive you could easily overlook the downfalls. I don't think it meant to a daily but a whimsical blast on the weekends for ice cream runs or a 40 mile ride for a pack of smokes. It is what it is a formula car for the road, not a family truckster."
Lotus ELISE Review – Yahoo Cars UK: "Lotus Elise sitting on a dealer forecourt, theres not a great deal of car there to get excited about. In fact, it may seem quite expensive with its modest Rover K-Series 1.8-litre engine and conspicuous lack of standard equipment. It certainly doesnt cosset its owner like an Alfa Romeo GTV Spider, or have the inherent user-friendliness of a Mazda MX-5. "

2005 Lotus Elise Preview: "LOS ANGELES, CA - With the death of the long-lived Lotus Esprit V8, of which just 100 will be sold in the U.S. for 2004, Lotus plans to expand North American operations and sales for 2005 and beyond with a slew of new products.
First out of the chute is the 2005 Lotus Elise, an ultra-lightweight sports car that goes on sale in May. It adheres to company founder Colin Chapman's four basic automotive design philosophies: It is lightweight for better performance; it is fun to drive; it provides a comfortable ride and exceptional handling; it is innovative."

2005 Lotus Elise - First Drive & Road Test Review - Motor Trend: "We've been anxiously awaiting our first test of the 2005 Lotus Elise. All the worldwide hullabaloo surrounding this car (available elsewhere since 1996!) worried us that the Elise we Americans would receive might not live up to its billing at the test track. We've never been so happy to report (now and in 'First Drive,' July) that the Elise has arrived, unmolested, and that every word written or uttered regarding this car is true.

It's no secret that the key to its exceptional abilities is its use of lightweight materials. That being the case, one might think the 1979-pound Elise has all the comforts of a go-kart. Not so. Our $40,780 Elise (stereo and air-conditioning are standard) came with the $1350 Touring option (full leather seating, power windows, insulated soft-top, additional sound-deadening, and carpet) for a total of $42,130. Lotus endorses bio-ethanol power: "
Lotus Exige 240R: the future is bioWe hear Lotus Engineering is experimenting with a bio-ethanol version of the supercharged Exige.
The car has more power at 264bhp and torque than the 240R -- the prototype is based on the ex-press fleet 240R -- and is so much quicker than the standard supercharged Exige around the Hethel test track that the engineers are upgrading the front brakes to cope.
It's the consequence of bio-ethanol offering more power than petrol, according to Lotus Engineering technical specialist Richard Pearson, who said that the effect was particularly marked in cars with super- and turbo-charged engines. He said that the efficiency increases aren't huge but are within the range that many people in the automotive industry are spending billions of dollars attempting to achieve."
Lotus Elise: "Introduced in 1996, Lotus Elise gave a new life to the historic British marque.
It certainly is the world's most affordable supercar. It feautures a 1.8lt.120bhp Rover engine which, combined with the minimal weight of 675kg, which results from the use of advanced materials, propels the car to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. Lately, many conversions have appeared in the market for those who think that 120bhp are not enough.
Power can be easily boosted to 180bhp and with a starting price of 20,000 pounds ($30,000) you should not be wondering why the Elise is already a classic."

Lotus Products: "It's not how fast it can go. It's how your heart beats in a few seconds. Never mind that Lotus is one of the world's legendary sports car marques, or that every Lotus was borne out of ingenious, clever engineering. It doesn't really matter that the ride and handling of the Lotus Elise is outstanding, or that its sharp communicative steering, quick throttle response, precise braking and balanced aerodynamics all contribute to the Lotus experience of sublime performance.

What really matters is when you get that shiver down your spine. Or why all your senses just get fixated on one thing.

Try driving a Lotus Elise and you'll realise.

That it's just you.

And your Lotus Elise.

And that's all you'll care about."
